When my twins were younger, my husband said it would be fun to have “movie nights” with them as we introduced them to our favorite animated feature films. Because we were counting down to a trip at the time (and mostly because we are giant nerds), I took it one step ten steps further – and Disney Family Days were born. Back in the day, these were weekly occurrences. Over time they got much less frequent, but the point remains – it doesn’t take a holiday to spend a special day celebrating family and one of the Disney classics!
Our Disney Family Days are not parties, despite that my kids refer to them as such. I love planning detailed parties, and I’m sure you’ll see a few of those around here, too ;) These, though, are much more simple. A few decorations that cost $5 or less (many are made from stuff you have lying around the house!), a themed menu, a few games or activities and a movie. Some are more elaborate than others, but young kids – and the young at heart – have a lot of fun with them!

Looking for a fun, easy family night that’s perfect for summer? This should do the trick! For our “A Bug’s Life” movie night the menu was good ol’ fashioned picnic fare with a little twist:

Flik’s Fried Chicken
Princess Atta’s Potato Salad
Heimlich’s Fruit Kabobs (grapes on a skewer w chocolate “eyes”)
Francis’ Ladybug Strawberries (Strawberries, halved, with chocolate spots)
Dot’s Dirt Pudding

We played a game of Cootie before watching the movie – but I suppose Ants in the Pants would work just as well :)

I told you it was a simple one! I’d love to hear what else you did to add fun to your family’s “A Bug’s Life” night. Share in the comments below!

That sounds like so much fun! I always say we need to have themed movie nights, but then we never do. I’m seriously doing this one!

We need to get back in the habit of doing them. We have done so many, I can’t wait to get around to sharing more! :)

Simple and fun! Haven’t watched the movie but if you did this at Halloween time you could make on of those dishes that has “bugs” in them.
