When my twins were younger, my husband said it would be fun to have “movie nights” with them as we introduced them to our favorite animated feature films. Because we were counting down to a trip at the time (and mostly because we are giant nerds), I took it one step ten steps further – and Disney Family Days were born. Back in the day, these were weekly occurrences. Over time they got much less frequent, but the point remains – it doesn’t take a holiday to spend a special day celebrating family and one of the Disney classics!
Our Disney Family Days are not parties, despite that my kids refer to them as such. I love planning detailed parties, and I’m sure you’ll see a few of those around here, too 😉 These, though, are much more simple. A few decorations that cost $5 or less (many are made from stuff you have lying around the house!), a themed menu, a few games or activities and a movie. Some are more elaborate than others, but young kids – and the young at heart – have a lot of fun with them!
In honor of its recent victory on the For the Love of Disney Facebook page‘s “Best Animated Disney/Pixar Movie” bracket, I thought today would be a good day to help plan a Beauty and the Beast themed dinner and family night. This is one of my favorite movies – and clearly the favorite of many of you – and this dinner was particularly yummy!
On the menu:
- Herb-crusted Chicken breasts
- Potatoes Au Gratin
- French Cut Green Beans
- Chocolate Eclairs
Activities
- Beauty and the Beast coloring pages
- Indoor snowball fight – so much fun! 🙂
- Book-stacking Relay Race
- Chocolate Kiss Rose craft
Do you have Beauty and the Beast fans at home? I’d love to hear your ideas for a themed party or family dinner!

This is great! Beauty and the Beast is a favorite for both me and my daughter. We would have a blast celebrating a theme night like this.
