I received free products in order to host a Disney Side @Home Celebration. The opinions expressed here are my own. Thank you to Disney Parks and MomSelect for choosing our family to show our #DisneySide!
If you’ve been around here long, you know we like to have Disney-themed parties. Maybe it’s for a birthday, maybe it’s just for a random Tuesday. We’ve covered everything from circuses and fairies to Mary Poppins and robots.
At the end of last year, we found out we had been included in a wonderful opportunity to host an officially sponsored #DisneySide party. We had a swashbuckling good time with a fun, Jake and the Neverland Pirates Preschool Playdate. You can read more of those details here, if you missed it!
This year, we were able to participate in a similar #DisneySide event. We received an incredible box of goodies from the folks at Disney Parks and MomSelect/BSM, as well as other amazing sponsors like HP, Duff Goldman and more. We couldn’t wait to plan another over-the-top, just-for-fun party with all of our friends and family!
And then, of course, it was frigid and snowing all over the country all month. Right? I heard story after story of folks like me who were supposed to have a party on a particular date, rescheduled over and over, canceled, changed. You know what though? ANY day is a good day to show your #DisneySide – even if some of your friends are snowed in. 🙂

When we looked at the box of goodies, we saw some of our favorite things: Mickey and Friends, Minnie and her lovely bows, Princess pampering and palace pets fun… we knew we would have to think for a few days to come up with the perfect thing to meld all of that together. The possibilities were endless! I read about some amazing parties – some with a VoluntEAR focus, some for grown ups only – and decided that we would stick with the basics this time, thanks to the chaos of winter.
To our family, there is little that says, “delight in just being family” than walking down Main Street, USA – on either coast. Nothing else quite embodies Walt’s desire for families to spend time together; nothing else hints at the magic and amazing memories we are about to create on a family vacation.
To capture that feeling – especially in the dreary grey days far from Florida or California – I asked the kids what said “main street” to them. I also thought about activities and party plans that simply spoke to good old-fashioned family fun.
We began with some of the fun activities from the party kit – Disney Trivia, Theme Parks Bingo, and activity sheets.
Next we chose from our collection of Disney-themed board and video games, playing together the rest of the afternoon.
In a house full of kids, there’s no other way to determine the next activity than to “pick from the bowl”! 🙂
And what party would be complete without food?! We made (or bought :)) some Main Street staples, and added in some fun, whimsical desserts.
It wasn’t “Casey’s Corner”… but everyone enjoyed the corn dog nuggets!
Whimsical rainbow cupcakes from Duff Goldman. We have made these kinds of treats for years, but were blown away at the gorgeous colors from the cake mix kit!
We finished up with a classic game of pin the tail on the donkey Pin the Mouth on Mickey 🙂
The party we came up with was different than our usual cohesive, detail-oriented themes… but it did EXACTLY what it was supposed to do. We spent time with people we love. We reminisced about Disney memories and daydreamed about making more together.
Woody is sad to find out that this isn’t, in fact, his birthday…
… but it’s safe to say he enjoyed the “Mickey Party” just the same!
Do you want to have a #DisneySide party of your own? You don’t need anything specific – or even a particular “reason” to celebrate. Check out DisneySideCelebrations.com for inspiration, ideas, recipes, and activities! I had forgotten how much fun that site is, and can’t wait to plan a party for upcoming holidays!
