In February of this year, we surprised the kids with a super quick getaway to Walt Disney World. We had considered not telling them until the drive (or even the airport) as we had done once before, but decided against it for a few reasons:
- Last time that totally flopped. I mean, they were excited enough, but it wasn’t those reaction videos you see on YouTube.
- We devised a plan that would mean the ENTIRE house got cleaned – like, even the garage – without complaint. That totally could have backfired, but it didn’t. Instead, we got the best reaction we could have asked for….
We had spent all “drawing cards” that gave us a task. After we completed the task (some more difficult than others), we’d have a family reward. It may have been a treat, or a quick dance party, or a break to watch some Tsum Tsum videos.
After literally several hours and achieving the cleanest, most organized house we’d had probably since we moved in (score!), they opened the last one.
It was definitely a whirlwind trip, with just 2 days in the parks – and not even full days at that. One day we hit all four parks (stay tuned to the site for our advice on the 4 Parks, 1 Day Challenge!), but we certainly didn’t see or do even a small percentage of what we usually hope to accomplish in a trip.
Still, it was a much-needed getaway during a difficult winter – and we got to connect with a long lost DCL friend! I’m so grateful we had the chance and the means to sneak down.
