- Some may not agree wholeheartedly with this (and we discuss the hangups), but there is a reason it’s popular. Who you spend time with influences the kind of person you become.

- We should always surround ourselves with people better at {business/being compassionate/parenting/leading/writing/whatever} if we want to continue to grow.

- Wives talking negatively about their husbands. Employees bad-mouthing their boss. Negativity breeds contempt and holds us back from becoming the people we want to become.
What does this mean? Cut everyone out?
- We are definitely not suggesting we don’t support our friends in hard times or minister to those less fortunate than us.
- Just recognize where you want to go, and limit how much access certain people have to your decision-making, etc.
- Set boundaries with people who do not support you and push you in the direction you want to go.
- Establish a core group of people who know you – your hopes and dreams, struggles and fears. People who will be your biggest cheerleaders but have permission to call you out when you are wrong. People who have the qualities (or are going in he same direction toward the qualities) you want to possess.
